If you have a parent or loved one in a nursing home or in institutional care in Ohio, it is important to be aware of the many forms of elder abuse and nursing home neglect.<\/p>\n

As the Baby Boomers move into the retirement years, many families and children are challenged with providing quality of life, and quality of care, as their family member ages.Due to illness or infirmity, some seniors are unable to live at home, and need the extra help provided in a skilled nursing or assisted living environment.<\/p>\n

Suffering in Silence<\/h2>\n

In Ohio, and elsewhere in the US, the true numbers of seniors who suffer from elder abuse is unknown.Like young children, older adults are often ignored, disbelieved, or simply unable to speak about what has happened to them.According to the National Center on Elder Abuse (NCEA)<\/a>, approximately 10 percent of seniors suffer some form of abuse.<\/p>\n

More than any other aspect of your life, the placement of an aging family member is not a \u201cset and forget\u201d task.Maintaining active awareness of the environment of your loved one, whether they are in a nursing home, hospital, or private home, is critical to ensuring they live out their lives without being subject to abuse.<\/p>\n
